Directives & Regulations

With the ecodesign regulation, Europe 2020 targets energy saving close to 40 TWh for water pumps and 25TWh for circulators. Likely, it is expected to see 29 million tons decrease in greenhouse gas emissions by 2020 in Europe. In this respect, ecodesign regulatory establishes legal actions for energy consumption and saving potentials.

Europe 2020 objectives target:
- Reducing the greenhouse gas emissions by %20
- Increase the share of renewable energy in Europe’s energy portfolios up to %20
- Decreasing energy consumption by %20 with energy efficiency

Directive defines the minimum energy efficiency class of the products. Right now, there are 3 active regulations and 2 regulations that are under development.

Active regulations and their coverage are as follows;
Water Pumps - EU 547 / 2012 Regulation
For water pumps, the following efficiency index requirement applies:
MEI (minimum efficiency index): a high value = high efficiency
From 1 January 2013: MEI ≥ 0.10
From 1 January 2015: MEI ≥ 0.40

Circulators - EU 622 / 2012 (former EU 641 / 2009) Regulation
For circulators,the following efficiency index requirement applies:
EEI (energy efficiency index): a low value = high efficiency
From 1 January 2013: EEI ≥ 0.27
From 1 January 2015: EEI ≥ 0.23

Electric Motors - EU 640 / 2009 Regulation
For electric motors, the following efficiency index requirement applies:
IE4 = Super premium efficiency
IE3 = Premium efficiency
IE2 = High efficiency
IE1 = Standard efficiency
From 1 January 2015 IE3 or IE2 with frequency inverter P = 7.5 kW – 375 kW
From 1 January 2017 IE3 or IE2 with frequency inverter P = 0.75 kW – 375 kW

The regulations under development are as follows;
Waste Water Pumps - ENER Lot28
Large Water Pumps - ENER Lot29
